Since I'm assuming this new love interest won't go beyond the 4 episode order it makes sense to have him be a bad guy. It's a reasonable amount of time to introduce him and give him an exit while serving a purpose other than being used as a gimmick to keep Castle and Beckett apart.

Great minds think alike :) Also, Stana said in the interview that Beckett's mom's case will be touched again by the end of the season.

oooo having him some kind of a bad guy? I say that'd be pretty cool! As long as none of our favourite people get hurt too badly…

Marbs84, if that does end up being the case and new guy is somehow involved with something to do with Beckett's mom's case (or even if they are dating when something new comes up and Beckett confides in him), I would think that would be a particularily troubling thing for Castle, since he has been intent on working her mom's case with her. Especially now that Beckett told him she wants him there when they find out who did it. Ouch! I remember Stana mentioning that in the interview, too.

He wouldn't have to be a crazy stalker to be a bad buy. It could be he was a rookie who worked one of the cases back when her mom was murdered. If he didn't help cover something up maybe he knows someone who did. It doesn't necessarily make him a bad guy but maybe he knows something that he's kept quiet about all this time.

The only problem I have with him being a good guy is that we know he isn't going to last. So if they play him as a good guy then I hope he has no connection with her moms murder case. It's taken how long for her to put trust into Castle? No way do I want to watch her do the same with some new guy in 4 episodes. It wouldn't be consistent with her character. If they play it as some fun flirtation, a date or two, and then he's gone because both feel it isn't going to work fine.

I also hope they don't leave us on a "romantic cliffhanger" this season. I can't take having Castle being gone for almost a 4 weeks now and if they leave the season with Kate still with this new guy it'll drive me crazy! But a positive in this is like some of you said, Castle will see Beckett in a relationship and this could be something that'll help him want to admit feelings towards her…him not making a joke, but being serious about it. But hopefully she'll look to Castle when this new guy doesn't work out :)

Someone else raised this point earlier and I think it bears consideration – the story said this guy would be a "love interest". This doesn't necessarily mean they'll actually go out or kiss or anything. He could be someone she's only interested in. You know, is tempted to go out with, but at the same time is reluctant to do so. If she does end up going on a date with him, I hope he's not from the 12th. She doesn't seem like the type to date co-workers. Have we covered this already? Sorry if we have. I've got a head cold and am having trouble focusing.

Hmmm. I don't think so. Looks to me from his shoutouts on Twitter he was there only a short time. This guy is slated for four episodes.

I would think that if he had been casted we would hear from Ausiello and tvguide.com already.

But I do find it kinda odd that he has not be cast yet cuz Stana said they wrap up filming this season on April 8th.

I'm surprised we haven't heard casting news for her love interest yet. If he's scheduled for 4 episodes and they're already filming episode 20 then we should be hearing something soon. Unless they've gotten some unknown actor for the role and it just hasn't been leaked yet. But I'm guessing they're getting somebody fairly well known.

Jamz I'm with you, I'm surprised we haven't heard who is playing this character yet?   So I was thinking maybe we get introduced to him during the two-part episodes (Tick Tick Tick or Boom).  There is a character on there named Scott Dunn (on IMbd) played by Dameon Clarke?  Maybe they changed the charcter's name to Scott Dunn?  Just a thought.

Actually on the 3rd day of filming episode 20, I asked Terri last night.  But yeah, they should have cast the love interest already.
