Sometimes I wonder if we're all watching the same show. lol [Image Can Not Be Found] Casual viewers are probably wondering whether Beckett will be back or not. But on this forum, we're all fans. I doubt there's any casual viewers here. With the amount of spoilers and interviews and tweets from the cast and crew that we get all the time, I really wonder how one could think Stana won't come back in season 4…

Please understand: it's not a possibility. There are long term contracts with the regulars, usually 6-7 years long and these are one-way streets: the channel can cancel the show anytime or can change somebody, but an actor or a showrunner can not say that "I'm bored, I quit".

Most showrunners have several projects in preparation, because it is too late to start thinking on something new after a show is cancelled. That's the real world, each and every show has an end, they want to be prepared – it has nothing to do with the immediate fate of the show.

Stana had a very busy first six months. She hadn't even finished the last episode of Castle when she went to a set of The Big Sur on her days off, then hopped the plane to Zlin, then she was cornered a bit with the For Lovers Only – when it was finished, she went private. Yes, last year she tweeted more on her holiday. And? It was her private time, she didn't work, there were no new project, that's all. She is not obliged to fill our curiosity. Indeed she likes to do other projects beside Castle, because she is thrilled with the new challenges but until her original contract lasts those are possible only if they fit into Castle's schedule, those are not either-or choices.

Her SDCC presence (or absence) was obviously the part of the "Beckett was shot fatally" ruse (on twitter, the scene what was shown at the panel) – me personally can't really see the logic in this after AM's interviews in May, but it's their PR, not mine.

I know things are done a bit differently in other countries when it comes to television series programming, but here the lead characters of a show are not usually killed off, or leave.  They usually sign (and I am going to have to disagree with halaci here) 2 year contracts, and IF, the show does well, and the broadcasting companies decide to keep the show, then the actors/employers work out new contracts for whatever number of years or money they both decide on.  Usually, the union (SAG= Screen Actors Guild) will be part of the renegotiating of contracts. 

 

Most programming put on television these days (aside from reality, game, soap operas) don't last more than a few episodes (Paul Reisers new show for example), or even past the first season, thus long term contracts are not signed right off the bat.

 

Stana, is a lead character, just as Nathan is, and the likelihood of either of them leaving, would mean the end of the show, which we know isn't happening.  If any of the other characters in the show were to leave, it would be heartbreaking, but not the end of the show, as these characters don't carry it – as Stana and Nathan's characters do.

 

So, no worries for Stana…  the Beckett onion has yet to be peeled.

Thanks for the correction, what I know is that it is tipically at the end of the 6th-7th season when the new contracts are negotiated. Your information are probably more precise, and this first period is covered by two contracts, one for the start and (if the show survives) a longer one for the next few years.
