I tried looking at this earlier, but found it hard to navigate the site.  Maybe it's just my computer, but I couldn't get to her interview.

The article:

———————————————————————————————–

Tamala Jones has been
heating up our screens for better part of two decades. And she’s not slowing
down anytime in the near future. As a fan favorite on ABC’s Castle, Tamala
plays Lanie Parish, an intelligent sassy and intuitive medical examiner. The professional
actress has been a Hollywood staple whose stable career is blossoming into a
bright and exciting future.

You have an extensive
career as an actress, how has your journey been to make it on a mainstream
drama?

Nothing good in life comes easy; it’s all about your
attitude towards what’s in front on you. My character “Lanie Parish” was
actually written for a Caucasian actress, but my agent and manager along with
myself were all in agreement that I needed to step out of the box a bit. I
auditioned for the role in the pilot and I booked it. “Lanie” was supposed to
be a guest star with a possible recurring role. The show (“Castle”) got picked
up by ABC for 13 episodes and by that time it was pilot season again. I was
still auditioning for other pilots when I heard the news of the pick-up and was
about to network test for another pilot. My team called ABC to let them know
that I was about to test for another show and ABC put a stop to that, with an
offer as a series regular role on what is now one of ABC’s highest rated shows.
It was a Godsend, truly a blessing to have gotten the role along with a cast
and crew of truly humble and talented people.

How vital is an
important female figure in the development in young women?

It is beyond vital!!! It is a must for every young lady to
know and have a positive, strong female force in their life. The young women of
today are being tested with so much more adversity & negativity in this
world now than any other time in history. The diseases that are out there are
so deathly real, the down low man situation is beyond account and not to
mention, the low self esteem issues that hit young women at such a young age
now. They need to know that nobody is perfect, but we all have to use out best
judgment when making a choice, and knowing what having a choice really means. Life
is all about learning. You’re going to make mistakes, just don’t keep making
the same ones. As a woman who has made plenty of mistakes, I can say that I
have learned from every last one of them and it is my duty as a woman to pass
along what I have learned to young women in hopes that they can avoid making the
same mistakes. I am apart of many charities that focus on reaching out to young
women. “Girl Prep” is one of the ones that I really love being part of because
it’s an all day event and highly effect. Jenesis A. Harper age 11 along with
her Mother Dr. Towanna B. Freeman put “Girl Prep” together, to reach out to
reach out to young girls from ages 7-16 focusing on self esteem, self
awareness, enlightenment and stepping forward in the right direction of life,
no matter where your from or your circumstances. That mother and daughter team
are an amazing duo.

Is it hard to ride
the line between sex symbol and serious actress in Hollywood?

Wow!! Sex symbol Hmmmmm…..lol…. I never thought of myself as
a sex symbol, but I’ll take it…lol. I love acting I always have since I can
remember. I try to give the best performances in anything I do. I think my battle
is more about structuring the correct and continuous development of myself and
as an actress, they go hand in hand, my life experiences, whether I personally
experienced them or witness them from someone I know, I use the experience. For
example, if I have a crying scene to do, I’ll take a moment before the scene to
think about the saddest thing I know or have felt. I’ll get to where I’m about
to cry and that’s when I start the scene. It’s a bit on the method side of how
I connect to a role, but that’s something that I learned that from the “Lee
Strasberg Institute” years ago. You have to draw from a life experience when
correcting to any character as an actor.

You and Jamie Foxx
are worlds away from when you starred in the film Booty Call, do you ever get
together and reminisce on the finer things from then (like his hair and your
outfits)?

LOL!!!! Now we don’t talk about the colorful dreads he wore
or my crazy looking shiny outfits….lol… I always see Jamie at events or parties
and he’s always been consistent with me. Even after winning an Oscar and
becoming a huge star, he has remained a sweet gentleman. I always feel like a
royal coming to court when I run into him…….lol. He is an amazing person to
know, a very nice man!

You began your career
as a model, if acting hadn’t worked out would you have continued to pursue it?

No. I would have been a psychologist. I love people and I
love helping them.

Consistently well
dressed, how do you trend the line of elegant and sexy without coming off as
trashy or too forward?

Thank you for that compliment. I am a huge fan of old
Hollywood, when female “Movie Stars” were called “Screen Goddesses”. The one
thing that I love about those divas from back then is they had a rule and I go
by that same rule. If you are going to show a little leg than everything else
is be covered or if you are going to put the ladies on display, then everything
else must be put away. There is a very famous photo of Jane Mansfield breaking the
ladies code sitting next to Sophia Loren at a table and Sophia is throwing the
evil eye at Jane Mansfield for having everything but her nipple hanging out.
Lol, that is one of my favorite pictures. Besides, Jane at times, those screen
goddesses knew how to tread the line between elegant and sexy without the
trashy or too forward energy.

You were dressed in
Eva Franco for the [photo] shoot. How did her pieces make you feel?

Timeless, Eva’s pieces are amazing!! I definitely was able
to channel old Hollywood mixed with the new. There is a dark green cape I wore
during the shoot and it is sooo classy/sexy I want it….bad!!! But I will say, I
am in love with Eva Franco’s line, it speaks elegance it’s sexy but very
classy.

As a fan favorite your
character “Lanie” is getting more and more screen time, can we expect a show
focusing on her past?

The fans have been a huge blessing to me and to the show!
Because they wrote into ABC that they wanted to see more “Lanie” they got more “Lanie.”
As long as they keep writing in about what they want to see, the writers and
producers will find a incredibly entertaining and witty way to deliver it. Through
twitter I communicate with fans as much as I can, we all do it as a cast and
crew and it’s a great bond between us. So thank you for all the fans on twitter
and everywhere, you are greatly appreciated and please know we are #1 Monday nights
at 10:00pm on ABC because of you!!!! We love you guys and you know it!!! But to
answer your question, right now the focus that’s on “Lanie” is if whether she
is going to hook up with “Det. Javier Esposito” or not or maybe with someone
else, who knows what they are up to in the castle tower (i.e. the writer’s
room).

What can we look
forward from you in the future?

Right now “Castle” is my main focus. I don’t get any long
breaks to work on much else. The only long break I have is our summer hiatus
and I try to squeeze in a movie or two in that time which is only about a month
and a half. Our last hiatus, I was able to shoot a film called “35 &
Ticking” and it turned out fantastic!! The cast includes myself, Nicole Arie
Parker, Meagan Good, Mike Epps, Kevin Hart, Clifton Powell, Kym Whitley and
Wendy Raquel Robinson. It’s a drama based a group of friends who are at
different stages in life with very interesting plots throughout the movie. The
film will make you laugh, cry and hopefully applaud after you see all the
amazing performances. I am very proud of the work done in the movie. Russ Parr
is the writer and director of the movie and the last I was informed was that
Lionsgate was interested in the film and hopefully they love it as much as we
do and distribute it. I also Co-produced the film along with the executive
producers Kym Whitley, Russ Parr and Mike Epps. I think that I’m ready to
executive produce and direct, that’s the direction I’m pushing towards right
now. After working on this film I have grown an interest in finding more
projects to produce and possibly/eventually get into directing. I have two
projects right now that I’m interested in working on but I’ll just need to
decide which one to start first with time being my only obstacle.

Thanks molly_little castle.  I had to spend some time finding her interview on the site as well.  I would have linked the article and pictures directly if I would have been able to figure out how to.  I'm glad you were able to!
