Good News for Castle
Posted on January 13, 2010 | 22 Comments

The return of season 2 of Castle last night after a four week holiday hiatus saw a positive response from viewers with almost nine and a half million people tuning in and a  ratings share of  2.6/7 in the 18-49 demographic.  The episode was ranked by viewers posting to Twitter as one of the best of the series so far.

Following on from the positive ratings news Castle was highlighted at the TCAs (Television Critics Association Press Tour) today by ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson who said “Andrew Marlowe [Creator]  has done great job of growing those characters. And I hear so much anecdotal support for the show, it’s great.”

McPherson also said of  Castle, “We’re excited by the show, Nathan is fantastic and I think his chemistry with Stana is great. I think tonally, there’s not a lot of shows on like it. Probably Bones is the only other show with that tone and we’ve seen what a success Bones has been. It’s a warrior for Fox.”

An announcement was also made that the second Richard Castle Nikki Heat novel is due to be released late in September, one year on from the release of  Heat Wave.  Heat Wave appeared almost immediately in the New York Times Bestseller list and has remained in the list for 14 weeks.  Castle has already started making references to the new “Heat” novel with this week’s episode “A Rose for Everafter” mentioning what’s coming up in chapter 6.

Further news leaked today by Ausiello is the guest star appearance of Dana Delany in two episodes of Castle.  Nathan Fillion played opposite Delany in season 4 of Desperate Housewives.  The guest appearance will be for a two part episode which in a unique move will air on consecutive nights.  The first part will air on Sunday night (Mar 21) following Desperate Housewives with the second part airing in Castle’s regular time slot on Monday night (Mar 22). Delany will play Federal Agent Jordan Shaw.

While no announcement has been made for a third season of Castle there’s no denying that all this positive news is an encouraging sign.

Castle is one of my favorite shows. While I have been a fan of Nathan Fillion since back in the day when he was on One Life To Live, Castle seems to have been created especially for him. However, something must be said for the casting of this show as every regular character and every guest or recurring character is perfect for his/her role. I can’t imagine any other person in any of these roles. Also, the writing is smart and fast paced, and not written for dummies…you have to pay attention to keep up. I hope it is picked up for many years to come. And please don’t start changing the time slot on this show. That always seems to be the beginning of the end of shows. Why change something that works? Thanks. cj

  2. Castle Says:

I believe the single Sunday night episode is a special occasion. It’s actually a good thing for the show as it will attract new viewers from Desperate Housewives and with the two part episode concluding the following day in Castle’s regular Monday timeslot it will bring those new viewers over to Castle’s regular time.

  3. Farscapefan Says:

I hope ABC is not going to let us wait until mid-May, but will announce sooner their decision about renewing “Castle” for season 3. Go “Castle”!

  4. Maliris Says:

I am sooo glad that Castle is doing so well. It’s the one show that I really look forward to every week and the latest episode had me clap my hands happily and laugh out loud.
The characters are so much fun to watch, the chemistry is great and I love that Ryan and Esposito get more and more screentime. :D

My copy of Heat Wave just arrived and now I’m off, reading. With a nice cup of tea!

    Castle: “Like tea?”

  5. MacLane79 Says:

    So excited!
This is definitely a wonderful show with an awesome cast and crew. It just keeps getting better and better!
Hope the official announcement of Season 3 comes soon.

  6. Janet M. Says:

This is great news for everyone involved in the making and watching of Castle. This is the best show nightime TV has to offer. Its fun and it really keeps you wanting and waiting for next weeks episode. Nathan, Stana, Seamus, Jon, Ruben & Tamela are the most fun to watch, you never know whats coming next. Susan & Molly they always bring out the best in Nathan. Now with Dana Delany coming and getting to work with Nathan again, this will be beyond awesome. They worked so well together. It is looking really good for a season 3 for Castle.

  7. Sunshine Says:

So excited!!! This is just what I needed to hear, and I know it will not be “prose so bad it sent me screaming out into the snow”. :) lol. (can’t help it, just watched “Castle!”). The book will be awesome, and as for the next season…I’m SURE it won’t be long before they’re announcing it!

  8. Melanie Says:

I love, love, LOVE, this show. This is wonderful news. Wahooooo! And the book…that’s just icing on the cake. ; )

  9. castlefan12 Says:

I loved the new episode of Castle!! Love the chemistry between Castle and Becket. Hope that continues to grow. Can’t wait for the next new episode. Makes me look forward to Mondays:) They better make a third season. I love this show!

  10. michaela fisher Says:

Castle is articulate, witty, and thank God, adult! Nathan Fillion – wonderful in Firefly – is perfect as Castle. Throughout the show the chemistry is excellent. Kudos to casting who certainly got it right this time. I enjoy how the characters are developing, love their complex and mature relationships. I hope ABC is aware that this show could be every bit as much a cornerstone for the network as Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. More so, because this one is not mainly for “chicks.” Guys like it too. Loved the latest episode, “A Rose…” – they keep getting better and better. Sharp writing! (Love the line: “Who roofies a guy? Just ask!” ) Yea, ABC!

  11. Gemma F Says:

Wonderful news! As with all the previous responses…this is a “Great” series with a Wonderful/Beautiful cast that blend well together. My husband and I actually look forward to watching “Castle” on Monday nights. It has the mystery, life lessons and chemistry that we discuss even after the hour has ended. We’ve turned friends/family on to “Castle” and get the same wonderful response. Great Job to everyone on the show! Looking forward to a possible season 3.

  12. Stepping Stone Says:

This show is by far my favorite. My husband goes to bed at 9 pm regardless except for MONDAY nights!! We are addicted. We record every episode as we watch them so that we can watch them again later! We constantly fight each others theories as we try to solve the case from our couch! It is great for TV and for our home! The crew is brilliantly casted and the chemistry between Castle and Beckett along with their witty comedy just keeps you reeled in!! Keep it up because this one’s a winner. TEAM CASTLE for Season 3 :)

  13. shelly Says:

I agree! I have never written an opinion before. But I really like this show! I hope it stays. It helps with the winter weather.

  14. Sephiro Says:

Castle is great. When Firefly was over, I was sad that the world would no longer be blessed with Nathan’s charm and wit. But then a friend showed me Castle. With the shortness of Season 1 I was concerned that we’d again be denied the awesomeness and charm that is Mr. Fillion’s work. But he and Stana Katic were brought back for Season 2 and its been a dream! Their combined chemistry and antics keep me geared up for the next episode and waiting to see what they are going to do next.
Please keep Castle for a long long time. There is a lot of story to tell with these Characters, and I know that with more time, everyone else will see that as well!

SSN 3&4 and many more I hope!!

  15. Fran Etter Says:

We love everything about this exciting series. It has a great story-line, terrific casting, and sharp writers. As grandparents of teenagers, we especially appreciate the good communication between Rick and his beautiful daughter, Alexis. She really can talk to him about anything that’s bothering her, and that’s a great example of good parenting for today’s troubled times.
Keep up the good work, ABC–su Castle es mi Castle.

  16. Renee Says:

Castle is my absolute favorite show! Nathan is such a hottie ! I so hope that is renewed for another season!

  17. Nancy Says:

I love this show! The cast is great. Always looking forward to Monday nights. I hope it gets renewed for a third season.

  18. Marcy Says:

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I absolutely LOVE this show and EVERYTHING about it!! The cast, the writing….EVERYTHING!! Someone just told me this past weekend that they heard it was cancelled and I wanted to cry, so I had to come and search for some news on this!! I am so happy to see all these wonderful comments here & I hope they renew it for many, many, many more seasons!! It’s the BEST…and so is Nathan Fillion!! Been watching him since his One Life To Live days!! :-) As someone else here had written, it seems as though this show was made and written just for him. All I know is….Castle is THE BEST show on my TV!! Now, we just have to sit on eggs, waiting for them to let us know if they are going to renew it!!

    PLEASE….PLEASE…..PLEASE RENEW!!!!!! :-)

  19. m jordan Says:

Love the show…….hope they continue to create and nourish the tension of
Castle and Beckett which keeps most of us on the edge of our seats..just like
Bones….you never know when they are going to cross the crime line and
make it more personal between these two wonderful characters. just wish
ABC would have found a better time slot than 10 p.m. Mondays…..this show
    deserves a better lead in….

  20. tvaddict23 Says:

Aside from Bones, this is the BEST show on television at the moment, even if it’s delayed in Australia by almost half a season (though we get repeats, and it’s paired with Bones). The chemistry between Fillion and Katic is AWESOME and I hope to see a developing relationship that maybe takes a little less time to resolve than the Brennan/Booth one. The support cast is also absolutely AWESOME,

  21. Diane Powell Says:

We just discovered Castle this year and have recently rented and viewed season one to “fill in the blanks” on the back story. We love the show and hope that there are more seasons to come. It’s fast-paced and very funny. Let’s hope it isn’t cancelled!

  22. J Williams Says:

My Monday nights are devoted to “Castle”! I have followed this show since luckily viewing the very first episode, when I happened to chance upon it in channel-surfing. I was hooked immediately. The characters are superbly written and cast. The story is an intriguing and entertaining mix of crime drama and comedy. The dialogue is witty and charming. The plot twists keep the viewer guessing. And the time slot is PERFECT !!!! [PLEASE don't change that!]

I do have one complaint — but it is NOT about the show. My complaint is about ABC’s promotion — or lack of promotion — of “Castle.” It’s almost ABC’s best-kept secret. I watch other ABC programs on other nights. I see LOTS and LOTS of commercials promoting ABC’s other shows. But I RARELY see anything to promote “Castle.” This is a heinous error on the part of ABC’s execs. The show is doing very well with a loyal following that has learned of it, primarily (in my opinion) by word-of-mouth. Significant promotion by ABC, however, in contrast to ABC’s abysmal promotion nowadays, should take “Castle” through the roof in viewers.

I am serious about ABC’s half-hearted support of “Castle.” PLEASE broadcast more “Castle” trailers!!! (Which are 30-second snippets of fun and worth rushing back to living room to watch, i.e. from the kitchen refrigerator.)
Thanks for letting me have my say.
